Verizon Family Plan Reviewed
Like most providers Verizon offers a local and a national
family plan. Both plans are quite similar in terms of minutes
and features. Verizon family plans includes
unlimited evening, weekends and mobile-to-mobile minutes,
they refer to it as "in-network calling minutes".
A great plus is that they offer is free incoming calls on
the primary line of the all their family plans. Additional
lines for both plans are $20 each per month, up to 4 total
lines per plan. |

The only differences between the local plan (Local DigitalChoice)
and the national plan (America's Choice) are roaming charge for
the local plan costs $0.69. For the local plans, there are some
locations that don't offer unlimited evenings and weekend minutes.
They still include 1000 night and weekend minutes, probably just
to prevent abuse in certain areas.
The advantage of Verizon family plans is that the call quality
is generally considered excellent with stronger reception and
less dropped calls than other carriers. This is probably due to
the fact that Verizon Wireless has the largest nationwide network.
Their network uses the 800 MHz CDMA Digital and 1900 MHz CDMA
PCS technology, so if you are giving them a try make sure your
phone supports their network.
They also offer great value for their family plans. You can usually
get about 20% more anytime minutes for the same price with most
competitors. With the free in coming calls for the primary line,
there won't be much need for lots of anytime minutes. Also
included is voice mail, caller ID, call waiting, conference calling,
call forwarding and text messaging.
However, their promotions are not always as competitive compared
to other cell plan providers. They aren't known for using those
crazy rebates to attract customers. The additional line cost of
$20 each a month is also quite costly, compared to some providers
that now offer it for $10. Their activation cost is the standard
$35 for a one-year contract. As of September 2004, they are having
a promotion of $15 activation fee for two-year contracts. Remember,
this goes for each phone in the family plan. Customer reviews
publicized that they have horrible customer service, but this
is usually for cell phone services.
Overall, the Verizon family plan is more suitable for 2 users
and maybe 3 heavy users. Otherwise the $20 extra per line, will
not offer enough value for its price.
Overall Rating for this plan: 4/5
