Sprint Family Plan Reviewed

With the new Sprint PCS Fair & Flexible Plan, it gives users more options when deciding if the Sprint family plan is suitable. Unlike other providers, they allow you to add a phone on to any local or national plan. They refer to it as "Sprint PCS Add-a-Phone" which costs $20 a month for each additional phone. It also comes with the option of upgrading to their Vision entertainment and multimedia package.

Sprint’s wireless plan are made out of two national plans, the Fair & Flexible and the Free & Clear plan, and a local/area-wide Free & Clear plan. Sprint is not as popular as other providers, so the need of mobile-to-mobile minutes is not as important. They don’t include any mobile-to-mobile minutes in their plans, but offer unlimited minutes for an upgrade of $5 a month instead.

They are known for their high quality Vision multimedia package and plans with included long distance fees, even on local plans. Although their national plan is not very attractive due to small nation wide coverage, they do offer an upgrade of $5 a month for no charge roaming on other major provider's networks. This only is available for national plans and they do state that people who use it extensively on a regular basis will be terminated from this offer (meaning not more than half your minutes used on roaming).

The Vision package includes Sprint TV, Picture Mail, Video Mail, email, instant messaging and web access. For an additional $25 a month for the primary line it’s quite costly. A better way to utilize these features is to pay an additional $5 extra when you add an additional line to a family plan. Instead of paying $20 just an additional add on line, you can add a line with Vision for $25 a month. There aren’t many Sprint phones that offer web, camera and video features, as one of their drawbacks is a limit selection of phones. With other family plans, you might have noticed that it is not very suitable for families with low or inconsistent usage. The new Fair & Flexible plan offers minutes for $0.07-$0.10 per minute, adjustable at the end of the month. This means that if you have inconsistent usage, those additional minute charges of $0.40 won’t have you worrying. The drawback is that this plan requires a two year contract.

The advantage of going with Sprint is that the call quality is quite good since they use their own cell sites (they are 100% owned and operated by Sprint). They also have a roaming agreement with many providers, this allows you to place a call almost anywhere in America. So if you don't travel much and your area has Sprint's coverage you can count on strong and dependable cellular phone service. We recommend the Sprint family plan for local and long distance usage.
