Nextel Family Plan Reviewed
The Nextel National Team Share and Nextel National Shared
Minute plan are the two main types of Nextel family
plans. Recently they added a shared plan just for
the Blackberry devices. All of their family plans include
nation wide long distance and roaming, which is great for
small businesses and travelers. |
|
The two plans are quite different in terms of how the minutes
are shared. The Team Share plan is structured like most family
plans. It offers unlimited evening and weekend minutes and additional
lines for $15 each per month. On the other hand, the Shared Minute
plan does not offer any unlimited evening and weekend minutes.
They do offer an upgrade of $10 per month for unlimited evening
and weekend minutes. This plan is technically not a family plan,
it requires members to have their own separate plans. We decided
to include it in our review because it does allow minutes to be
"pooled" and billed to single person.
The Shared Minute plan includes unlimited Direct Connect minutes.
Direct Connect minutes can be used to call other Nextel phone
users, even if they are not registered on your phone plan. It
is similar to mobile-to-mobile minutes offered by other cell phone
providers, but with faster connectivity it works more like a walkie-talkie.
Therefore if most of your family and friends use Nextel, this
would be a great plan to choose. In this case, the Shared Minute
plans would offer more value as the Team Share plans only includes
250 Direct Connect minutes per line.
Another great feature of Nextel's National Shared Minute plan
is you only pay for what you use, all calls are billed by the
second. To the second billing ensures you that you're only paying
for what you use, unlike the Nextel's National Team Share plan
and other providers that bill by the minute.
Another thing that you must watch out for is the include features.
Do not assume cell phone plans include caller id, voice mail or
even text messaging. Although most providers do include them with
your monthly fee, Nextel's Team Share plan does not. They charge
an additional $1 each for caller id and voice mail. Even worst
they made two-way text messaging a total rip off at $7.50 per
month. These additional features are included in the Shared Minute
plan.
In terms of overall value, Nextel's Instant Connect feature is
quite convenient, with an above average coverage and call quality.
The Nextel family plan is suitable for small businesses and families
that can take advantage of Direct Connect. We believe many businesses
and families who needs a reliable phone service, wouldn't don't
mind paying the extra cost associated with Nextel's plans.
Overall Rating for this plan: 3.5/5
